In the southwestern part of Colombia, you will find the city of Santiago de Cali, or Cali in short. Cali is the capital of the department Valle del Cauca. The city has around 2.500.000 inhabitants, and is the third biggest city in Colombia, after Bogotá and Medellín. The climate is very warm, with an average temperature of 26,8 degrees Celsius. The city lies 1.000 meters above sea level, which means that malaria does not occur in the city.
Cali is most famous for being the world’s capital of salsa. You can find salsa clubs everywhere you go, and all inhabitants know how to dance salsa. You can take classes, even for free. The locals are very happy to teach salsa to foreigners. But for people who are not that much into dancing, Cali also has a lot of other things to offer. There are a lot of natural parks, beautiful hike trails and very pretty neighborhoods with amazing buildings and architecture.
