Short term volunteering
Are you interested in volunteering in Colombia, but you can't commit to an organization for a long period of time? Then short term volunteering is the solution! Short-term volunteering is suitable for volunteers who can help for less than a month.
This means that you mainly get to know an organization and can be meaningful by understanding what the NGO needs in the short term. The goal is to transfer your knowledge and skills to the organization. After you have done your fieldwork, you can always stay involved and remain in contact with the NGO.
What can you expect from us when being a short term volunteer:
- E- mail contact in preparation of and during your volunteer adventure.
- An intake interview (face to face or online via a video call).
- The VC document about our expectations towards the volunteers.
- The scheduling of an appointment between an NGO and the volunteer.
- Volunteer meeting once a month.
- You can always reach VC on your mobile from Mon-Fri during office hours and in case of emergencies on weekends.
Volunteer options
Short term volunteers
Can join organizations that:
- Focus on animal welfare. Volunteers in Colombia works together with an animal shelter that accommodates cats and dogs that for various reasons no longer have an owner. Because there is not enough staff, the dogs are often inside all day. You can let the dogs out as a volunteer, so he or she can play outside and get some fresh air. If your knowledge of the Spanish language is sufficient, you can also do administrative work.
- Giving English classes. Volunteers in Colombia cooperates with a number of NGOs that also accept short term Volunteers. You can volunteer here to support the English classes that are given weekly by these organizations in different neighbourhoods in Medellin.
It is not possible to share your expertise as a short term volunteer with all organizations with which VC has a partnership. Therefore, we are very careful to place volunteers with children. We will always choose in the best interest of the child. We believe that it is not in the best interests of children living in homes that volunteers with whom they build a bond change often.
